My Favorite Place for Personalized Gifts – Things Remembered!

One of my favorite places to shop for personalized gifts is Things Remembered.  I LOVE that store!  Luckily for me we have a great one in our mall, they carry tons of great gifts and some items that are only given to a select few stores.  Over the years I have bought personalized photo albums, jewelry boxes, Christmas ornaments, keychains, money clips, bookmarks and more.  My personal favorite was the pocket watch that I gave to my dad as a thank you gift at the rehearsal dinner for my wedding.  He was so touched by the gesture and he still adores his pocket watch nearly 9 years later.

Wordless/Wordful Wednesday – Trick or Treat!

Trick or Treat! The boys were all dressed up on Sunday night and doing their best to get as much candy as they could possibly hold in their little treat buckets. This was Emilio’s first year that he kinda knows what’s up and that candy was involved. That boy will do anything at the mere mention of candy so being able to dress up too was just way too much fun for him.

Oscar decided to be Darth Maul, Benji wanted to be the Black Iron Man and I just had to dress Emilio in the cute hand me down Dragon/Dinosaur costume that Benji had worn in years past. I’m not sure if its a dinosaur or a dragon but I’m leaning towards dragon because it has spikes on the back. Either way its a super cute costume!

We had to go trick or treat at our favorite neighbor’s house first! 
(Don’t kill me Tammy, lol!  This was the best shot I got of the boys trick or treating!  
You just happen to be in it :D )

As some of you know, I am not completely a SAHM.  I do work outside the home part time, every other weekend at a car dealership.  I love working outside the home a few days a month to connect with people outside of my normal everyday life.  Not only do I continue to hone my customer service skills but I also get to be around an environment that I have always loved – the auto industry.  I have worked at car dealerships since I was 16, so pretty much half of my life.  Due to my experience I happen to know more about cars and maintenance, vehicle sales and titling than most do.  

The last three years I have worked at a high end car dealer and I have watched the economy slump and sales go down.  Three years ago the economy was great and sales were booming but nowadays only a handful of folks are looking to purchase new vehicles.  It seems as most everyone has kicked into a cautious mode and decided to focus on servicing their vehicles and keeping them alive as long as they can rather than going out and buying a new one at the first sign of trouble.  Drivers are now taking pride in their vehicles with the racked up miles and it looks like its a trend that is here to stay for awhile.

Jiffy Lube International conducted a recent survey that concluded more than half of U.S. drivers hope to have more than 150,000 miles on their car before they replace it with a new one.  More than a quarter of those drivers are hoping to reach at least 250,000 miles or more.  Jiffy Lube has over 2,000 franchised service centers in North America so in appreciation of those folks that are showing pride in maintaining their vehicles instead of opting to trade them in Jiffy Lube has created a really cool Facebook Page called “Keeping My Ride Alive”.

Affordable Personalized Gifts from Executive Gift Shoppe

I love giving personalized gifts.  Even better, I love receiving them!  I think its so cool to have my name permanently engraved on my stuff.  It just makes whatever the item is feel really special.  I have keychains, photo albums, all kinds of stuff personalized.  I think that I love them so much because it shows the thought behind the gifts that the giver put in them.  One thing that I have wanted since I started blogging was a personalized business card holder.  You can imagine how happy I was when I found out that I was going to be able to review one from Executive Gift Shoppe thanks to the Family Review Network.

The Review

I received the Lightweight Aluminum Silvertone Business Card Holder for review, which retails for only $11 including the engraving.  I know, a steal right?  I chose it because it was simple yet elegant.  There was a huge selection of business card holders and it was really tough to narrow it down.  I had my first and last name engraved on the top of it.  I have to say, it looks BEAUTIFUL.  I love it, absolutely love it.  It is small, compact and so chic!  This makes such a great gift for anyone that has a need to carry around their business cards with them on a regular basis.  I really like the engraving too.  The font is really simple and pretty.

I remember when the very first little George Foreman grills came out over a decade ago.  I think just about every household in America had one of those babies.  We used ours a lot at first but as our family grew larger we found that it didn’t work as well for us anymore.  Plus it was such a pain to wash.  I was always afraid that I was going to soak the elecric components with water.  I finally said goodbye to that little one a few years ago and sold it at our family garage sale.  I hadn’t thought too much about the George Foreman grills again until I saw the George Foreman Evolve.  When I was given the opportunity from the Family Review Network to review one for myself I jumped at the chance to check this suped up grill out.

My Experience with the Evolve

So far, I have used it to cook steaks, meatloaf muffins, and chicken.  The steaks and the meatloaf muffins turned out the best.  The only attempt that I made at the chicken so far turned out too dry.  I may have overcooked it because I don’t remember chicken being a problem with my original George Foreman grill in the past.  I have yet to use it for cupcakes or bread but I definitely plan to in the coming weeks. 

Its very simple, easy to use and I agree that it is the most versatile appliance that I own.  However, I do think that it runs a little too hot based on the instructional temperatures and that cause many of my meals to get a little crispier than I would have liked.  My meatloaf muffins looked really burned on the top but they still tasted really awesome and I didn’t notice any burnt taste or crispieness when I ate them.  Like I said there are so many things that can be done with this machine that I have yet to try. 

My one major complaint about the machine is the timer.  Its not very loud at all.  In our busy, boisterous household I get dragged away from the kitchen several times when cooking to referree the boys.  If I wasn’t paying super close attention or they were really loud I wouldn’t be able to hear the timer go off and that would burn the food.  I wish that the timer was louder and that it kept buzzing until it was manually turned off instead of beeping three times and turning off by itself.

These were the steaks that we made, I also grilled green onions on top and they were really delicious!  You can see the fat draining from the steak as it cooks.

Even though my first attempt turned out dry I am determined to figure out how to cook it just right.  I know it can be done.  I think that I cooked this chicken a little too long and maybe at a higher heat than I needed. 

The meatloaf muffins are by far my favorite.  I followed the recipe for them that came in the Evolve guide book.  The only thing extra I added was green onions.  For me, meatloaf was huge staple in our house growing up, its a big comfort food for me.  But, I like to add green onions to it and my husband hates green onions.  So out of protest I just never made meatloaf.  The meatloaf muffins are the perfect solution to the problem.  I made one batch of meat following the recipe and then split it in half and in a separate bowl I addes chopped green onions to one half.  Then I scooped his meatloaf into the silicone baking cups without green onions and my half with green onions in the remainder.  Regularly one large meatloaf takes at least an hour to bake in the oven but these muffins were done in 10 minutes!  The fat drained to the bottom of the baking cups so when I took the meat out of the individual cups it wasn’t as fatty as traditional meatloaf. 

My only complaint about this meal is the clean up process.  I let my muffin plate sit over night and by the time I got to washing it the stuff had dried on inside the circles and it was annoying to clean out each individual circle.  Other than that I loved this dinner idea and I will be implementing it on a regular basis.

Overall I have had a positive experience with this appliance.  I am excited to try new recipes with it and I look forward to adding additional plates.  I love that the system is literally a set it and forget it method of cooking.  Its so simple – even my husband can make steaks and burgers on his own!  Which is perfect for him while I am eating my Nutrisystem meals.  He needs something very easy to operate with little instructions.  He loves it just as much as I do!

Do You BBQ? You Gotta Try Herman T’s BBQ Sauce – Review and Giveaway

Summer is a great time for family BBQ’s but our family loves BBQ so we are enjoying BBQ all year round. When the Family Review Network offered up the chance to review some tasty BBQ sauce I couldn’t pass it up. We love trying new sauces and word on the web was that this sauce was pretty darn yummy.

Herman T’s BBQ Sauce was created by Herman T. Jones in the 1950′s. Herman T. wanted his sauce to be a great sauce that could be enjoyed and shared with all of his family and friends. In 2002 his grandson Chef Brian Lewis decided to mass produce his grandfather’s beloved recipe for the whole world to enjoy.

Herman T’s BBQ Sauce Mix is like no other sauce that I have tried before. Its not premade in a bottle, instead it is a mix that you can quickly add to ketchup and water in a saucepan at home and make fresh for your family to enjoy. I really liked this concept of being able to make the mix myself. It was really easy to make and kind of fun too! I made both the original and the spicy because we love both types of sauce and I wouldn’t be satisfied if I only tried one.

After I made Herman T’s Original BBQ Sauce I set it aside in a dish while I prepared the Spicy Sauce. With both sauces prepared and ready to go it was time to get started on dinner. I had planned chicken nuggets for the kids and grilled chicken breast marinated in the sauce for the adults. The BBQ Sauce looked so tasty that we ended up setting aside some nuggets for ourselves to dip into the sauces and give them a taste while we were preparing our chicken. The hubby and I both agreed that both sauces were really delicious!

The Original flavor is bold yet smooth in flavor, we gave it the big thumbs up! Hubby has a huge tolerance for spicy so he agreed that the spicy flavor was spicy but not that spicy. I on the other hand have a lower tolerance so I thought that it was really spicy, which I liked. Above you can see the grilled chicken that we prepared, two breasts were covered in Herman T’s Original and two breasts were covered in the Spicy. Even though we both like spicy foods we agreed that the Original definitely tasted better than the Spicy in our opinion. It just had a really delicious flavor that kept us wanting more.

Do You BBQ? You Gotta Try Herman T’s BBQ Sauce – Review and Giveaway

Summer is a great time for family BBQ’s but our family loves BBQ so we are enjoying BBQ all year round. When the Family Review Network offered up the chance to review some tasty BBQ sauce I couldn’t pass it up. We love trying new sauces and word on the web was that this sauce was pretty darn yummy.

Herman T’s BBQ Sauce was created by Herman T. Jones in the 1950′s. Herman T. wanted his sauce to be a great sauce that could be enjoyed and shared with all of his family and friends. In 2002 his grandson Chef Brian Lewis decided to mass produce his grandfather’s beloved recipe for the whole world to enjoy.

Herman T’s BBQ Sauce Mix is like no other sauce that I have tried before. Its not premade in a bottle, instead it is a mix that you can quickly add to ketchup and water in a saucepan at home and make fresh for your family to enjoy. I really liked this concept of being able to make the mix myself. It was really easy to make and kind of fun too! I made both the original and the spicy because we love both types of sauce and I wouldn’t be satisfied if I only tried one.

After I made Herman T’s Original BBQ Sauce I set it aside in a dish while I prepared the Spicy Sauce. With both sauces prepared and ready to go it was time to get started on dinner. I had planned chicken nuggets for the kids and grilled chicken breast marinated in the sauce for the adults. The BBQ Sauce looked so tasty that we ended up setting aside some nuggets for ourselves to dip into the sauces and give them a taste while we were preparing our chicken. The hubby and I both agreed that both sauces were really delicious!

The Original flavor is bold yet smooth in flavor, we gave it the big thumbs up! Hubby has a huge tolerance for spicy so he agreed that the spicy flavor was spicy but not that spicy. I on the other hand have a lower tolerance so I thought that it was really spicy, which I liked. Above you can see the grilled chicken that we prepared, two breasts were covered in Herman T’s Original and two breasts were covered in the Spicy. Even though we both like spicy foods we agreed that the Original definitely tasted better than the Spicy in our opinion. It just had a really delicious flavor that kept us wanting more.

Mmmmm….. Ice Cream! Even Sweeter, Enter the Good Humor Sweet-stakes and You Could Win One of 10,000 Prizes!

I like ice cream as much as the next girl but in my house its the boys that simply can’t live without their ice cream. If you ask my husband he insists that he isn’t a fan of sweets but I beg to differ. He is the one that is constantly replenishing the stock of ice cream in the freezer. He has to have some kind of ice cream treat, bar, sundae or cone at least twice a week if not more. He loves sharing his love of ice cream with our three boys. The boys love it almost as much as their dad! So when I got the chance to review some sweet ice cream treats from The Mom Bloggers Club and Good Humor I knew that I just couldn’t pass it up – the boys would kill me!

Once I got my voucher for a free multipack I ran to store to check out the options. After much deliberation I finally settled on the Chocolate Eclair multi pack. I chose this flavor because at the Safeway closest to our house they only had two options available, that or Strawberry Shortcake. I was hoping to find the Cookies and Cream because all of the boys love Cookies and Cream. I live in an area that in general doesn’t have a lot of options for anything, so to be honest it really wasn’t much of a surprise to me that the Safeway by my house only carried two out of the seven mulitpack options available from Good Humor.


Even though it wasn’t Cookies and Cream the hubby still really liked it. I had a bite of it too and I agree that it was pretty darn delicious. I expected it to be more crumbly considering it was covered in pieces but it stayed together really well. Yummy! The kids were a little hesitant to try it because it looked like nuts and they don’t like nuts on ice cream. I am still working on convincing them to try it to see if they like it.
