For some of us, jumping on the scale is not our idea of a good time.  It can be depressing to see the numbers go up, exciting to see the numbers go down – either way – it’s a roller coaster ride.  But recently getting on the scale has gotten a lot more fun!

Have You Heard About Lees #Carpet? #Stain Protection So Strong it Has a Life of Floor Warranty! – #Review Part 1

One of the coolest things that I saw at BlogHer 2011 was the Lees Carpet Spill Bar demonstration.  I have three extremely messy little boys so stained carpet comes with the territory.  It is one of my biggest pet peeves, and it seems that no matter what I do as soon as I turn my back the boys are busy spilling something on the carpet, yet again.  The only solution that I have come up with to try to protect the carpet is having a cheap and ugly area rug cover it.

It’s really tough when you want to have a chic and stylish home but you are forced to either live with disgusting stains or ugly area rugs.  It’s embarrassing when company visits and it makes me feel like my house guests think that I don’t care about the look and style of my home.  Which isn’t true – at all.

So when I saw what Lees carpet was all about I couldn’t believe my eyes!  It was like someone created a carpet for a mom with boys like mine!  So let me tell you just what Lees Spill Bar was all about.

blotted with a cloth.  I know what you’re thinking… Say what?  It’s true.  I saw it with my own eyes.  Lee’s Spill Bar had bloggers choose from a menu of common stains that would be difficult to remove.  You know, the kind where as soon as it spills on the carpet you are freaking out that it will never come out because they are that bad.  Things like wine, chocolate sauce, coffee and more.

Once the blogger made their stain choice they were served it in a shot glass and asked to spill it on the Lees carpet sample.  The Lees rep simply took a water bottle and a cloth and the stain lifted right off of the carpet!  Once I saw this I knew that this was the carpet for me.

Now did you see the reactions to the bloggers that saw Lees Carpet in action?  That was me too!  It’s actually one of those thing that you need to see to believe.  If someone had told me that this carpet existed I’m not sure that I would have believed them.  The proof is in the pudding – or chocolate, wine, coffee – whatever your preferred spill is.  This carpet is definitely something to write home about!  At least that’s how I felt when I left BlogHer 2011.

Not only do I see value in the amazing Lees Carpet from a mom’s point of view but from the stand point of a landlord as well.  When we moved out of our home last January the stains in the family room carpet were a definite eye sore.  With all the furniture gone there was no way to hide it.  So I did what I could and paid a professional carpet cleaning service to come out and treat the stained areas.  $300 later the stains were faded but definitely still there.

As we began showing our home to prospective renters I saw the look on their face as they walked in the family room and stains were staring them right in the face.  I offered each prospective tenant a credit on their first month’s rent to go towards purchasing an area rug, or rugs, to cover the stains.

Seeing how well Lees Carpets worked to fight stains I would definitely consider replacing the existing carpet in my rental home with Lees.  I think that it would provide peace of mind not only for myself as a landlord but for my tenants as well.  I know as a renter myself, I am so worried about the boys damaging the carpet.  There is all ready one McDonald’s chocolate milk stain that just won’t budge.

 

Lees Area Rug Review – Part #1

When I found out that I would be reviewing a Lees Carpet area rug I was SO excited!  First of all, beyond the fact that its Lees, I was so happy to be able to have a stylish and FUNCTIONAL area rug.  One that would protect my carpet where the boys spill the most.  And best of all, I was going to be able to ditch the ugly cheap area rug with a gorgeous, stain fighting rug.

In part one of the review I want to share my before and after photos with you of my family room – the room that receives the most action in the house.

As you can see the carpet in the home is a very light beige.  It’s a short shag with flecks of grey here and there but it definitely doesn’t hide stains.  The area rug in the picture is a cheap $30 one that I purchased at Home Depot.  It’s not comfy at all.  Very thin and it reminds me of what you find in an office.  It’s not big enough to go the full length of our sofa either.  I placed it here because my boys like to eat on the sofa and lots of spills occur in this general area.

Picking Out A Lees Carpet Style and Color

I was really excited to pick out my new area rug.  Lees Carpet is available at Carpet One Floor & Home.  I was able to browse all the carpet colors and styles from their website.

I knew that I wanted to go with a medium to dark brown color and also have some type of textured design.  I wanted the different texture because seeing as this is an area rug I wanted it to stand out a bit with a design even if the carpet was the same color.  There are SO many browns to choose from!  My husband and I went back and forth for a few days trying to decide which one we liked best.

One thing that I really liked about the Carpet One website is the option to see the details in every color and style that they have to offer.  First you click on the carpet style.  Once that window comes up you then select from the different color options available for that style.  The carpet style and color is displayed in a box on the screen that you can zoom in and out of.  One thing that really made it nice to imagine how the carpet looks is that they have an object placed on the carpet so you can see the difference between the carpet and the object as you zoom in and out.  This was a really helpful too in my opinion.

Decisions, Decisions

Finally we settled on the style Montelle and the color we chose was Incense.  It was such a hard decision but we finally went with a shade of brown that wasn’t too dark so it complemented our furniture better.  Montelle has a great pattern that I loved and I couldn’t wait to see it in person!

The day that the carpet came I was so excited!  The rug was rolled up tight and covered in plastic to keep it safe during the delivery process.  We wai

ted until the weekend to get the new Lees Carpet rolled out.  It was a family affair, as the little boys loved helping Daddy unroll the new area rug and put it in place.

I was really impressed with how gorgeous this pattern looks!  The pattern makes it look as if the rug is made up of two different colors which is exactly the added texture that I was looking for.  It is plush and soft – a real treat for your feet!  No more thin, ugly area rug for our family!  This is one of those rugs that just screams quality when you look at it.  You don’t have to be a carpet expert to know that this is a great carpet.

Below is a picture of the Montelle pattern up close.  It really looks like two different colors in the pictures but honestly the carpet is the same color but the pattern height is a little bit longer than the pile on the rest of the rug.  With the shadow and light in the camera lens it gives the illusion of two different colors in the picture.  I love that the pattern is bold yet subtle all at once.

I am SO happy with Lees so far.  The comfort and style of the carpet is important but I wonder how it will hold up to the wear and tear of my three little boys.  That is the true test!  I know that it won’t be long until the carpet is covered in crumbs, milk and whatever else they get their hands on.

Once I have had some time for my boys to wear in the carpet I will be posting the second half of my review.  I’ll let you know how well the carpet really repels stains and if blotting with water really will get a stain out.  Or a mushed in fruit snack…. Stay tuned…

The canvas itself is the same size as the other portraits but the frame is something that I might want to add later to make it fit in just a bit better.  I do love that the image is wrapped around the edge of the frame so that guests will see that all though there isn’t a frame the canvas has a finished look to it.  Here is a picture of the image wrap up close:

 

 

All in all, I love Easy Canvas Prints.  It really was an easy process to transform my favorite photo of my sons into a beautiful canvas that my husband and I will always treasure.  I would definitely go back to them for any future photos that I would like to see on my wall.  I’m even considering blowing up my Pretty Pink Momma logo into a canvas for my home office, I think that would be such a great way to define what my workspace is all about.

Simply Charmed Magnetic #Wine Charm #Review & #Giveaway @wineswithcharm

I’m not much of a wine drinker but even I can’t ignore a completely fantastic idea when I see it.  Wine glass charms that hang from the stem have been around for awhile, I myself have even made some as gifts, but recently I was introduced to magnetic wine charms created by Simply Charmed, thanks to Friends You Love.  Let me tell you, they blow any other wine glass charm that I have seen out of the water!  Also, because no stem is required, they are multi-purpose and can be used on anything to beer glasses to mason jars.

As someone who doesn’t even own a wine glass the ability to own charms that work for guests as well as my own personal needs is very appealing. I love that these charms work on wine glasses, beer mugs, keg cups and more.  It’s great that they are versatile no matter what type of shin dig that you are hosting.  Check out this example of a beer and pretzel party:

See?  Aren’t they cool?  Now everyone will know whose cup is whose!  They cling to just about anything because of the ridiculously strong magnet.  Just be careful when attaching them to glass because due to their super strong magnetic power they can cling very quickly which could cause thin glass to break if you’re not careful.  I didn’t have any problems attaching mine to one of my kitchen glasses that I was experimenting with. Plus they conveniently can be placed back in their package when you are done using them and store them on the side of the refrigerator for future use.

For review I received a cute set of butterflies that I practiced putting on all types of glasses and cups.  I realized that you could even use them on a pyrex dish too.  I thought that using them on a dish, near the rim or on the cover, might be a great way to indicate to guests dishes that have onions or if someone has an allergy they know to avoid the dish.  Probably not a good idea with children though just in case the little magnet slides off into the food.  Otherwise though I think it would be a great idea!

How Often Do You Have Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned?

My three boys are dirty, messy piglets.  It’s true.

I have tried to instill in my boys the importance of cleaning up after themselves, or better yet, teach them to be careful in the first place to avoid spills all together.  But my teachings are obviously going ignored.  My carpets have never lever looked more disgusting.

Before I had children I used to get my carpets professionally cleaned about once a year and usually it was something that my landlord took care of.  After all, keeping the carpets clean was in my landlord’s best interest.  It was a surefire way to make sure that the carpets would stay fresher longer.

The process of annual carpet cleaning became a part of my life.  When I became a homeowner myself I also made sure that I cleaned my carpets professionally at least once a year.  It was something that I was so accustomed to that I honestly thought that it was something that everyone did.  As I got to know my neighbors better I learned that some of them only had professionals come out every few years and some never once had their carpets professionally cleaned.  That I just couldn’t believe!

Professional carpet cleaning is still a must for me.  My little piglets spill milk, soda and more every day.  Not to mention their affinity for grinding in crumbs of any kind.  It’s too gross for me to keep with on a daily basis so I definitely take comfort in my favorite carpet cleaning company, Chem-Dry.  I love that they come in, move the furniture around, apply extra treatments to problem areas and the carpet dries in about two hours!  For me the expense is worth the results.

One product that Chem-Dry sells is their amazing stain extinguisher.  I love and live by this stuff!  Not only does it work awesome for lifting stains before they get a chance to set but it can also breathe life back in to your furniture.  The stain extinguisher can be uesd on upholstery and it gives it that fresh, clean look again.  It really works!  My boys stain the carpet almost as badly as they stain the sofa.  The sofa by far gets more stains because that is where they are sitting when they eating and drinking while they watch TV and rough house.  The spot remover is a great way to keep things clean in between professional visits.  The best part is that all though you can purchase it from Chem-Dry directly you can also buy it at Home Depot.

4 Simple Ways to Makeover Your Sofa

I love to decorate but when you are on a budget you can’t always justify going out and purchasing a brand new sofa just because you have become bored with the look or the color.  Or if your like me and have small children its not worth it simply because you know that they will most likely destroy it in a matter of minutes.  The sofa is the biggest piece of noticeable furniture in your home and most definitely the most used, therefore abused, piece of furniture as well.  So what can you do?  I’ll tell you, give it a well deserved makeover!

There are few easy ways to brighten up your sofa which will make you fall head over heels in love with it all over again.  You will no longer be embarrassed to seat your guests on the centerpiece of your family or living room once you have cleverly turned your sofa sets into newly decorated masterpieces.

 

Four Simple Ways to Makeover Your Sofa

1.  Add beautiful throw pillows. Throw pillows that come stock with your sofa are great cause they match but are also boring, cause they match.  Throw pillows can add lots of different textures and patterns to the feel of the sofa.  I love to add high quality throw pillows that pull accent colors from either the paint on the walls or even just a large painting in the room.  Of course you can find tons of gorgeous throw pillows at many local retailers but my favorite place to find beautiful throw pillows at bargain prices are Ross and TJ Maxx.

However, if you are bit crafty you can create some awesome looking pillows if you put in a little elbow grease.  I found some stunning and simple throw pillow designs on Design Sponge, featured on the right.  Just click on the link and you can read up on the tutorials for each of the pillow designs.  They are super chic and will add tons of texture to your sofa.

2.  Add a great new throw blanket. In addition to pillows throw blankets can also add in some awesome textures and colors to spruce up any sofa.  I personally love them because they quickly and easily cover up a stain on the cheap sectionals that I own.  If you have kids stains come with the territory so sometimes its just easier to throw in the towel or in this case – the throw, and just cover it up.  Throws and pillows are also great for adding some pizazz to a stunning Omnia leather sofa too.  Some sofas like the Omnia leather are naturally elegant but just need some subtle touches.  Throw blankets are very affordable and can be found just about anywhere.  I am addicted to throw blankets and I have at least five different ones in my hall closet of varying fabrics, colors and textures.  That way whenever I am in the mood to add a little decorative punch to my sofa I have some great options.

3.  Fluff up the batting or add some extra to fill in the flat spots. This tip I learned from a upholsterer I hired to sew the back of the cushions together on my sectional.  He showed me that my sofa had zippers at the bottom of the top cushions that were attached to the sofa.  Seriously, I had no idea.  All I have to do add some fluff back into those cushions is to unzip and pull the pillow within out.  From there I simply have to pull on it in different areas to reshape it so it will be fluffed back up when I place back inside of the cover.  Also, if your cushions are too far gone for fluffing you can venture out to the nearest craft store and purchase some batting to fill in any sunken spots and bring your sofa back to life.  I’m telling you, there is nothing more comfy than a freshly fluffed sofa!

4.  Cover it up completely with a brand new slipcover. This is probably the most costly tip but there are many different slip covers out there these days that look great and aren’t as expensive as you might think.  Adding a slipcover is a great option if you really dislike the fabric choice of your sofa or like in my case you need to hide several stains.  Slipcovers come in several fabrics and colors and many of them are washable, which is another fantastic feature if you have kids or own pets.  It is also an allergy friendly solution because regular washing can guard against the build up of common household allergens like dust, dander and pollen.
