Rango Summer Fun Review and Giveaway! Giveaway Closed

One thing that our family loves to do is watch movies together.  When we can, we like taking the boys to see new movies when they hit the theaters but seeing as our youngest is 3 its not always possible.  Some days he completely watches the movie without a peep and others he is wandering all over the aisles yelling and disturbing other movie patrons.  So, the cost of the theater experience combined with a possibly unruly 3 year old has driven us to patiently await for the DVD release of popular movies.  Rango was one movie that was at the top of our list!

About Rango – taken from the press release

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (May 10, 2011) – Called “the coolest, orneriest, funniest, best-looking movie” (Richard Corliss, Time) that is “like nothing you’ve ever seen” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone), the hilarious and imaginative RANGO saddles up in a Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack with Digital Copy and on standard DVD on Friday, July 15, 2011 from Paramount Home Entertainment.  The incomparable Johnny Depp voices Rango, a chameleon living as an ordinary family pet that dreams of being a fearless hero and is challenged to become just that when he inadvertently becomes the sheriff of a lawless desert town called Dirt.  Depp reteams with director Gore Verbinski, the visionary behind the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, in this wildly original comedy, which delighted audiences of all ages, earning more than $120 million at the U.S. box office.  The film also features the voices of Isla Fisher (Horton Hears A Who!), Abigail Breslin (Kit Kittredge: An American Girl), Ned Beatty (Toy Story 3), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2), Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Harry Dean Stanton, (“Big Love”), Ray Winstone (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) and Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”).

As we sat together watching Rango we all laughed at the antics of the theatrical Rango, AKA Johnny Depp.  The kids and I both really loved the movie.  I will say that it was an interesting concept of having the old west serve as the back drop of the desert town of Dirt.  It definitely made the story very colorful and fun.

One thing that I found interesting was the cast of characters actually acted out the movie on a Paramount set which is very different than the normal approach of just a microphone and a headset.  The real life actions of the characters are brought to life in their voices because they really all were acting out the movie together – props and all. I found some great clips on YouTube that show how the actors worked together in creating the full Rango experience. It’s really cool to see the acting translated into the character animations!

All in all, Rango is a really fun and creative movie that receives a thumbs up.  Rango was a big hit in the box office and now it can be a big hit at home too.  It was released on DVD July 15th so it can be enjoyed all summer long!  Not to mention that the DVD includes 10 deleted scenes and the never before seen alternate ending.  Plus you can meet the Real Creatures of Dirt!

#PhineasandFerb Across the 2nd Dimension #Portland Area Sneak Peek #Giveaway!!! – 5 #PDX Families Will Win

Phineas and Ferb fans get ready for the newest Disney Channel movie starring our favorite summer duo!  Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension will be airing on August 5 at 8/7 Central.

We are huge fans of Phineas and Ferb at our house.  In fact, when we moved into our new house a few months ago we all had a good laugh that the engraving on the garbage disposal ring in the bottom of the kitchen sink read “Insinkerator”, because it totally sounded like something right out of Doofenshmirtz’s lab.  The show is hilarious and I love watching the antics that ensue while Phineas and Ferb discover what they’re gonna do each day.  This is one kids cartoon that my husband and I both take the time to sit down and watch because we love it just as much, if not more, than the kids.

About Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension

SYNOPSIS
In the series, there are 2 very separate worlds – Phineas, Ferb and Candace in one world, Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Perry in the other. In the movie, Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension (aka PF2D), these two worlds are thrust together for the first time to create a big adventure like we’ve never seen before. After the boys stumble upon Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s lair, Phineas and Ferb unintentionally help the evil scientist perfect his latest –inator, which sends them all to an alternate dimension where a truly evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz (as opposed to our simply ineffective Dr. Doof) has succeeded in taking over the Tri-state Area and plans to travel back to our dimension to conquer it as well. After overcoming the shock of discovering Perry’s secret, the threesome learn to work together and establish a newfound relationship as not just pet/owners, not just friends – but a dynamic team ready to face their greatest challenge yet: to save the world as they know it.

Cars 2 is in Theaters Now – New Trailers, Kids Activities and a Review!

When star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix, Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage!

Cars 2 opens in theaters on Friday!!!  This Cars adventure is fun and action packed!  I was lucky enough to be able to take my 6 year old Benji to the screening for it on Tuesday night and we had such a blast.  It was a perfect mother and son date movie.  Benji is a HUGE Cars fan (me too) and what made it more exciting was that we were able to watch the movie in 3D.  Which is a big deal for us because my husband can’t see 3D so every time we see a movie as a family we skip 3D so my husband can enjoy the movie too.  Look how excited he is just before we saw the movie!

Benji is even wearing his Cars 2 shirt!

Cars 2, in my opinion, does not disappoint.  It focuses on a World Grand Prix Race that brings all kinds of crazy trouble into the mix all surrounding Tow Mater.  There is action, suspense and even a bit of romance.  Mater gets himself mixed up in a James Bond type spy mission and brings his classic humor to the spy action.  Which I have to say, I love the spy action.  Seeing all of the cool spy gadgets that emerge during the fight scenes is awesome.  I was engaged throughout the movie and so was Benji.

I have heard some criticisms from other moms that thought that Cars 2 deserved a PG rating rather than a G rating.  On this I have to agree, but let me explain why.  This movie is very different than Cars in the sense that there is violence between cars, they are “killed” off in fight scenes and there is a huge focus on guns throughout the movie.  Some parents were offended by the fact that the motor oil was deemed to look like alcohol and the cars were at a bar.  Personally, I didn’t get offended or see it that way because it was only in one or two short scenes and I know that Benji didn’t give it a second thought or even realize what the scenes were simulating.

Overall the movie was very entertaining  in my opinion and I didn’t have a problem with letting my 6 year old watch it.  I have talked to him about the “bad” cars that were “killed” off and he didn’t seem bothered or upset by it.  As for the glamorization of guns, we talk about guns with all of our boys on a regular basis because they are included in some of their favorite cartoons that they watch.  I would stress though that if you are a parent that does not approve of your young children being exposed to gun violence, cartoon or not, you might  be uncomfortable  Cars 2 and want to wait until they are a bit older.

The Perfect Potty Stool: The Little Looster – Review and Giveaway

I have three boys 7.5, 6 and 2.5 so I have been in potty training mode for nearly five years now.  Wow.  It seems like such a long time when I have to write it out…and its not over yet.  To get our young children for the “big event” that is potty training we purchase all kinds of apparatus, charts, seats and rewards.  Anything that will help this process along.  Obviously the most important of all necessities is the potty seat.  But, before your child can even attempt to sit down on the potty seat they will need a potty training stool to get them there safe and sound.

Over the last five years I have owned many stools.  Some were great others not so much.  The worst was the cute looking one I had with pink rubber feet (toes and all) that dyed my bathroom floor hot pink.  And all though many of the stools got the job done there were never any that were a perfect fit.  It seems my search is never over but the newest addition to my stool collection is the Little Looster and so far its wonderful!

The Little Looster

The Little Looster is a U-shaped plastic step stool that fits up against the front of the big potty. It’s patented design provides kids the optimal leg position and support while using the big potty. Kids as a result are potty training months quicker which is saving parents hundreds on diaper expenses and greatly reducing the amount of diapers in landfills. The shape of the Looster is also ideal for adults to not have to move the stool every time they use the bathroom and it even has cutouts for the boys and men of the house’s feet.

  •  Provides total comfort & leg support for years of use. No more painful pins-n-needles feeling when little legs are not supported.
  •  Promotes complete certainty. No scary feeling of “falling in.” Kids legs do all the work.
  •  Allows children to have their hands free at all times. No need to grip the back of the toilet seat or the inner, germ covered rim.

The Review

We have been using the Little Looster for a week now and we love it!  I have to admit, when I took it out of the box it look really big.  I honestly didn’t think that this stool would possibly stay out of my way when I sat down on the potty myself.  But it totally did!  This is a huge plus for me because one of the reasons that I completely stopped using the boys bathroom is the fact that I hated moving the stool around every time I had to go and then having them move it back when they they needed to go.  The Little Looster stays put and in place.  Here is a picture of our Little Looster set up in the boys bathroom:

My oldest doesn’t require a potty seat or stool so its really nice that the Little Looster doesn’t get in the way of his bathroom time either.  My 6 year old on the other hand loves having the larger stool and repeatedly thanked me for this much needed addition.  I have to say that I am most excited for my 2.5 year old to use it.  He has been resistant to potty training so far but his little eyes lit up at the site of the Little Looster.  I think that it will definitely take the fear out of being off of the ground and he will feel safe and secure.  Keeping my fingers crossed that he will pick up potty training way faster than his older brothers.

In fact, parents using the Little Looster are training their little ones two months earlier.  That saves approximately $175/per child and over 425 diapers that are no longer filling the landfills.  The Little Looster is helping families not only save green but go green too!

So far the only downside that I can think of for this product is the fact that I have three boys and the aim is never perfect – if you know what I mean.  I think that the Little Looster will see its fair share of splashes and aiming mishaps.  What my husband and I both really like about the Little Looster is that we can easily throw it in the bathtub and give it a quick wash to keep things sanitary.  With three boys, believe me, that is a huge plus.

If you are training a little one to use the loo I really think that the Little Looster is a wonderful accessory to have.  A chic little kid must have for sure!

Love Those Crazy Little Bugs! HexBug Nano Review and Giveaway!

One of the coolest toys to hit the shelves recently are HEXBUG Nano.  These are robotic creatures that behave like a real bug.  They crawl, flip, vibrate and most importanly – they BATTLE!  Because seriously what could be cooler than bugs that try to kill each other right?  My boys saw these little bugs and just had to have them.  Luckily for my boys I was given an opportunity from MomSelect to host a HEXBUG Nano party for them and include the kids in my neighborhood too.

About HEXBUG Nano

How it WorksTaken from www.hexbug.com

How it works. The motor inside the Nano rotates a counterweight that causes forces up and down. The down force causes the legs to bend and the Nano moves forward. The up force causes the creature to hop lifting the front legs off the ground and allowing the legs to unbend. This up and down movement repeats several hundred times per second causing the Nano to move forward. The Nano creature’s ability to flip over by itself is due to the rotating forces caused by the motor and the unique internal and external chassis design (and a little magic).

All though the HEXBUGS are fun just by themselves they also have fun accessories too that make the play experience that much better.  There are tracks and habitats that can easily be put together and arranged in any pattern that you can think of.  Kids can create several different areas for the bugs to congregate in or send them through the tracks chasing each other. My kids favorite play accessory is the Battle Bridge.  Once set up the HEXBUGS find their way to the middle of the bridge and run into each other until in a jousting type method until one falls off the bridge.  The Battle Bridge is $39.99 and comes with two rare HEXBUGS.

For days all of the neighbor kids were coming over to battle their HEXBUGS.  They love watching them race through the tunnels too but every kid wanted to see their bug win a battle.  When the HEXBUGS flipped over on their sides and vibrated around the kids love to call this “breakdancing”.  I thought that it was really cute!  Kids can also register their HEXBUGS and keep track of their collection at www.hexbug.com.  At the site they can also play games and learn real science.

I was able to catch some video footage of the neighborhood kids all playing with their HEXBUGS.  They were having a fantastic time – but you can see that for yourself!

The Positives About HEXBUG Nano

  • Inexpensive at $8 each
  • Tunnels are easy to assemble and the pieces are small enough that you can put them in a medium sized storage container.
  • Kids love them!
  • Easy to replace the battery
  • Lots of colors to choose from
  • Great for boys and girls alike

Negatives About HEXBUG Nano

  • The batteries last but only if your kid remembers to turn it off, if not the batteries can die out faster than what is necessary
  • They are very small, so they can get lost easily if you aren’t paying attention to them.  I still have one underneath my dishwasher that I need to rescue.

Buy It!

You can buy HEXBUG Nano at several specialty stores and major retailers including ToysRUS, Target and Radio Shack as well as online at www.hexbug.com.

HEXBUG Nano are $8 indivudually and replacement batteries are $4 for a pack of two.  The Battle Bridge is available for $39.99.  Other kits and accessories are available too, be sure to check out www.hexbug.com to see everthing that is available.

I had some leftovers from the HEXBUG Party that I threw so I am offering them up in one awesome giveaway!

Kung Zhu Review and Giveaway!

Last year at this time the must have toy of the holiday season were Zhu Zhu Pets.  Since their introduction parents were doing everything that they could to get their hands on them.  They were sold out in stores and luckily most stores got a shipment in just before Christmas so that Santa could come through for their kids just in the nick of time.  I was lucky enough to have had the chance to review them in the fall so I was one of the few parents not scurrying around searching for the lovely little hamsters.  If you want to, check out my review that includes my popular YouTube video that has over 60K hits.

2010 brought tons of new Zhu Zhu’s to the toy world.  Among them was a Zhu Zhu pet that was specifically targeted to boys, Kung Zhu Pets.  The Kung Zhu Pets consist of Special Ops and Ninja Warrior personalities that each have armor, weapons and engage in battling for training.  I personally thought this was a super cool idea.  I really like how they managed to make these little hamsters a little more manly and catered to the interests of boys.  My boys love army themed and ninja themed imaginary play I knew that these would be a win-win with them.

Kung Zhu – The Review

Info taken from http://www.KungZhu.com

Kung Zhu Battling Hamsters is a full lineup of crazy hamster warriors.  In “normal mode”, the hamsters are mild-mannered and act just like Zhu Zhu Pets Hamsters, including silly explore cartoon sounds in “explore mode” and normal hamster sounds in “talk mode”.   In “Battle Mode”?… let’s see….

The real magic of Kung Zhu is their ability to transform into more aggressive/zany hamsters with sounds to match armors sold separately.
“Powering up” a hamster into “battle mode” is accomplished by either:
1. a hamster completing “training”  in an obstacle course (making it to the end)     or
2. by swiping the hamster across a “tablet of Zhu” included with each armor set.

Playsets and track systems complement the armor themes and include a full battle arena where Kung Zhu can go hamo-a-hamo in free-for-all melee action.

Kung Zhu is specifically designed to work with Kung Zhu armors and vehicles and to run about in the Kung Zhu world.

Kung Zhu Hamsters have the ability to “learn” 8 different “fighting styles”.  Each Tablet of Zhu sold with Armor sets will unlock, inside every Kung zhu hamster, unique new sounds related to the armor/fighting style.

I was sent several boxes of Kung Zhu goodies for my boys to review courtesy of Mom Select.  Included were the two Kung Zhu Pets, a Battle Arena, two sets of Armor, two Buzzsaw Tanks and several Training Ground and other miscellaneous playsets so that I could have a complete arena set up for the boys to play with.  The boys were sooooo excited to be able to pick out their Kung Zhu Pets and their matching armor.  Oscar chose Stonewall with his Night Raid Armor from the Special Ops series and Benji chose Drayko with his Shadow Jonin Armor from the Ninja Warrior series.

For the next few days they were going nuts with their Kung Khu Pets, they couldn’t wait for the huge arena to be set up.  Luckily, my most awesome next door neighbor is also a blogger, Tammy from Tammy’s Two Cents, and she had received a Kung Zhu Party Review Kit from Mom Select that included everything I had and way more.  My boys were able to go to her party and play with the entire arena, which was a bonus for me because I didn’t have to set it up at our house until I found our for sure that the boys had a great time playing with it first.  I knew the set up for such an extensive kit would take a lot of time, it took Tammy about two hours to set up the entire party.  Another awesome thing for me about going to Tammy’s party is that she had set aside a hamster for my youngest to play with.  I was sent only two for review which doesn’t bode well when you have three boys that all want to play with the same toys.  Emilio chose the same Kung Zhu Pet as Benji did.

Now I took my own pictures and had my own video footage from the party but shortly after capturing the footage is when my car was broken into and my cameras were stolen.  I lost all the review material that I had so with Tammy’s permission I am using her video that she created from the Kung Zhu Party that she threw.  All three of my boys are in it so we did have similar footage.  Check out this super cute video that Tammy created and see just how much fun was had by all.

The kids had such a blast!  I knew that it would definitely be worth opening my playsets and taking the time to put them together.  The party favorites and my sons favorites were by far the Battle Arena and the Hamster Tanks.  The boys love to battle each other and the tanks give them the freedom to run around outside of the arena.  I love the new sounds that the Kung Zhu Pets make, they go nuts when the think they are gearing up for battle.  All in all they are the same cute little Zhu Zhu Pets with rockin’ new twist.

If you are thinking of buying Kung Zhu Pets this Christmas for your kids the must have playsets are the Battle Arenas and the Hamster Tanks.  Yes, the other playsets are awesome and so much fun for the kids to play with but the biggest problem with them is the storage.  You need a huge container to place the pieces of the playsets in when you want it cleaned up, or you just keep a huge designated area in your home set aside for the arena to be up long term.  At our house our designated garage, but we use our garage as a multipurpose room and not for car storage.  All of the kids in the neighborhood come in and play there so for us it makes sense, but even I like to clean up the area from time to time and put all the toys away.

Buy It!

You can find anything that you want to know about Kung Zhu Pets at http://www.KungZhu.com.  You can purchase Kung Zhu Pets at ToysRus, Walmart, Target, eToys.com and Amazon.

Win It!

One lucky Pretty Pink Momma reader will win this entire set of Kung Zhu toys!

Valued at $66 the set includes: one Giant Battle Arena, Kung Zhu Pets Ninja Warrior Hamster – Thorn, Kung Zhu Pets Special Forces Hamster – Sergeant Serge, Kung Zhu Pets Ninja Armor – Shadow Jonin and Kung Zhu Pets Special Forces Armor – Dune Tracker.

One of the Hottest Toys This Holiday Season is Imaginext Bigfoot the Monster from Fisher Price – Review AND Giveaway!

If you are a parent of young boys than you know that the Imaginext Bigfoot the Monster is at the top of their Christmas wish list this year.  My boys had been seeing the commercials for this toy on TV for weeks and were telling me everyday just how much they wanted one.  My two year old was the most enthusiastic about it, he was mesmerised each time he saw Bigfoot in action.  He would squeal in delight and say, “You get for me Mommy?”.  So you can only imagine how happy I was when I found out that I was going to be able to review one!

The Review

First of all I can’t tell you how excited my sons were to play with Bigfoot.  The day Bigfoot arrived I took him out of the box and left him sitting inside his packaging in the livingroom, not thinking that my two year old, Emilio, would spot him out.  Boy was I wrong!  He walked by and just about pooped his pants, well he wears diapers so he probably did poop his pants!  He BEGGED for me take him out of the box.  So of course I couldn’t let the little guy down I had to set Bigfoot free.  I have to say, that I think that the packaging is so darn cute!  It totally looks like Bigfoot wants out and is just waiting for you to rescue him.

After the painstaking measures of unscrewing, unwinding and de-boxing Bigfoot, he was free at last.  Minus an arm that is.  See Bigfoot comes ready to go minus one of his arms that needs to be reattached to his body.  And he also needs his rechargeable battery charged for four hours before he can play, much to my toddler’s disappointment.  That part is my fault though, had I realized that he needed to charge that long I would have waited to open the box and hid it away before the kids could find him.  In my excitement I was eager to check him out myself so I neglected to notice that detail.  I could wait but explaining it to a two year old is slightly more difficult.  Finally he understood and I set Bigfoot aside while we anxiously awaited for his battery to charge.

During the waiting period my oldest sons, Oscar age 7 and Benji age 5, came home from school and immediately noticed Bigfoot standing on the counter.  They were really excited and wanted to play with him immediately but luckily they are old enough to understand about batteries and the need for them to charge.  I did however have to set a timer in the kitchen so that they could watch the countdown until Bigfoot was ready for action.

Finally, the timer went off and Bigfoot was ready to come to life!  My oldest sons couldn’t wait to get their hands on the remote control.  I let my oldest go first.  What happened next though, I was not prepared for. While Bigfoot was doing his thing my two year old wouldn’t go anywhere near him!  He was scared to get close to him and he started throwing toys at him.  He also didn’t want to look away or miss one moment of Bigfoot action, he was completely enamored by him.  Below is some video footage of the first time my boys played with Bigfoot.

The very next day my older boys were off at school so Emilio was left to play with Bigfoot on his own.  Only this time he was ready for him.  Right from the moment he woke up his first question was, “Where’s Bigfoot?”.  I was happy that he finally realized that Bigfoot was nothing to be frightened of and that he was eager to play with him.  When he finally gained control of the remote he loved pressing the buttons and seeing what Bigfoot would say and do next.  Below is some video footage of Emilio having some one on one time with his new pal.

Bigfoot is pretty entertaining if I do say so myself.  He has over 80 actions and phrases.  He flips, he moves forward and backwards, he says funny stuff and makes strange noises.  He laughs when you “tickle” him by pressing in on his chest repeatedly. He even asks you to stop if you tickle him too much.  He raps too!  My husband and I started cracking up the first time we heard it because it totally caught us off guard.  Bigfoot also likes to exercise, and sometimes when he bends over he accidentally lets a noise out that resembles a fart.  Yes, I said fart.  Then he rolls his eyes in embarrassment and excuses himself.  This action made me laugh so hard when I heard it because I seriously did not expect THAT to come from a toy.  Well, farts are funny!

The biggest battle between the boys is for the remote – naturally.  It is very user friendly and has pictures of the actions that you might most commonly want Bigfoot to perform.  My favorite is the middle button which is the surprise button, I like seeing what Bigfoot will do when I am not commanding him.  The surprises also happen when you hold down any of the buttons which will then cause Bigfoot to unleash even more actions.

Bigfoot also comes equipped with a plastic leaf so that he can simulate eating by saying “Hungry!” and includes some chewing noises.  When he’s done chewing he may also say “Yummy!”.  My boys don’t really like to use the leaf too much, they prefer just sticking their fingers in his mouth and pretending that he is biting them.  When their fingers trip the right sensor in his mouth he acts just the same as if its the leaf.

He also comes with a small red ball that if you place in his hand he can throw.  Personally, I don’t think that this feature is that cool.  It doesn’t really add or takeaway to the Bigfoot experience, its just yet another thing that he can do.  My boys lost the ball within a few day of Bigfoot being out and I haven’t found it yet.  And, I’m not too worried about it either.  They only put it in his hand a couple of times, watched him lop it a couple of feet and then they were done.  They would rather play with the ball themselves than watch Bigfoot play with it.  In my opinion the ball isn’t necessary and is the least entertaining thing that he does.  I kind of equate it to hearing about a movie that is really funny but when you see the movie yourself you don’t think its that funny because you were expecting much more humor.  When I saw the ball I was expecting something fantastical to happen, all though I’m not sure what, and was disappointed with the weenie sized throw.  Just my opinion though.

Beyond the noises, phrases and actions there are few pretty cool things that I have noticed about Bigfoot.  He has sensors which I thought were for the remote function but I think that they must also be motion detectors too.  When my boys knock him over he knows it and exclaims “Whoa” or “Oopsie”, maybe even “Uh-Oh”, then he picks himself back up by flipping over using his feet and arms.  I think that its really cool that I don’t have to go over and pick him up like I have had to do with other toys we own.  I love that he is self sufficient and speaking as a parent that is tired of picking up toy after toy this is my favorite feature!

Another great feature is that when Bigfoot’s battery is dying he tells you.  He groans, “Battery” before he stops.  I love that he announces it, the kids know that its time for Bigfoot to take a nap while his battery recharges and they come tell me so I can get him set up.  Recharging Bigfoot’s battery pack is extremely easy.  The bottom of his has a battery compartment that opens very easily with either a flathead screwdriver or even a coin.  You unplug the battery and take it completely out of Bigfoot and plug the battery into the charging adapter.  The adapter has a light on it that is red while the battery is charging.  Once it turns green the battery is ready to go.  I love this feature because it is a huge sanity saver.  I don’t have to worry about the boys asking me numerous times if he’s ready to play because all three of them know, including my two year old, that when the light is red he’s not ready.  Plus when they notice the light is green they tell me, so I don’t have to constantly keep an eye out.

Is Bigfoot Worth The Money?

I wanted to specifically address this question in my review because I know that Bigfoot carries a hefty price tag.  All though each child is individually different its important to get a feel as parents if a toy in this price range has staying power or if our kids have fun for a few days and then its on to the next thing, never to be played with again. I know I am hesitant to spend that kind of cash on a toy unless I can predict with some certainty that it will get a ton of use.

So, what’s the verdict?  We have had Bigfoot for about two weeks now and he gets played with everyday.  I love that he has a rechargeable battery because boy if he didn’t it would cost a ton to keep him going.  That being said I think its important to disclose which of my three boys continue to play with him everyday.

My two year old ADORES him and wants to play with Bigfoot every single day, several times a day.  He loves laughing at him and seeing what crazy unpredictable thing he’ll do next.  He says, “Whoa Buddy!”  all the time and has added this as a catch phrase of his very own when talking to or about Bigfoot.  Sometimes he just says it when chatting with us for fun!  For this child, Bigfoot is definitely worth the money.

My five year old, doesn’t play with Bigfoot everyday but just about every other day.  When Emilio is playing with him he loves to take over the remote and play.  In my opinion, I think that the fun that Bigfoot brings will last for him.  He loves to play with toys, take a break for awhile, then get back to playing with that toy.  I think he will have cycles with Bigfoot in the same way.  Benji is very excited to share Bigfoot with the neighborhood kids too but he hasn’t had much opportunity because its been raining so much here for the last couple of weeks. For him its not just about his enjoyment but also letting his friends have fun too.  For his age range I would still buy this toy, I think that its worth it.

My seven year old thought that Bigfoot was cool and really like messing with him and commanding him the first couple of days when he was still novelty.  After a few days he lost interest and only played with him when his brothers were.  If he didn’t have younger siblings I don’t think that he would be playing with Bigfoot on a regular basis very much.  He is much more into video games and reading than into Bigfoot.  For him I wouldn’t think that the cost of Bigfoot would be worth it because he just wouldn’t play with him enough to merit the expense.

All in all, I think Bigfoot is a fun toy but meant (longevity wise) more for kids in the 2-5, maybe 6 age range.  It would make a great Christmas present for children in those age ranges, especially siblings that are in that range.  I think that having a few kids interested in Bigfoot and wanting to play with him makes it a great idea for a joint gift that will be appreciated by all.  If you do get Bigfoot for your kids remember to take heed when it comes to the charging of the battery.  The kids will want to rip Bigfoot out of the box and get him going ASAP and it will be a whole lot more fun if you can get his battery charged beforehand and put it back in the box.  That way when its unwrapped on Christmas morning the kids can play right away instead of waiting the full four hours that the battery needs to charge.

Its Easy To Learn to Ride a Bike With Glidebikes! – Glidebikes Mini Glider Review and Giveaway

Learning to ride a bike is one of those rites of passage that I think most every kid goes through.  Its a milestone moment when you can proudly take off those training wheels and the freedom to cruise around on two wheels is yours.  Its a once in a lifetime momentous experiences that you don’t ever forget.  I still remember bracing the curb and pushing off on my way down the street with my pink banana seat bicycle, my mom proudly watching me go.

As a parent I looked forward to being a part of this milestone with my boys.  Only to my surprise my oldest son freaked out about the pedals and refused to learn to ride the bike that we had bought him.  My son refused to deal with the pedals because he couldn’t make them go backwards and forwards like on his tricycle.  This was just something he couldn’t get past no matter how many times we tried to convince him that it would be okay.  So we finally stopped pursuing it.

To my surprise in September he learned on his own without training wheels to ride a bike!  It took until he was 7 years old but he finally did it.  The straw that broke the camels back was seeing all of the younger kids in the neighborhood whizzing by him on their bikes – it didn’t help matters that they were girls too.  Such an ego crusher.  He finally overcame his fear of the unknown and just did it.  I was so proud.

Then we had a new problem.  Our 5 year old, Benji,  saw that our 7 year old had learned how to ride a bike so he was bound and determined to learn as well.  Being so close in age they are so competitive about everything!  We went out and bought both of the boys brand new bikes.  Our oldest cruised around like it was going out of style and Benji was desperate to master the technique.

We started him out on his training wheels, as per the usual when someone is learning.  For two weeks he rode around with them.  Every time we would take them off he just couldn’t figure out how to get going.  He did great at higher speeds but he could not master the take off and the balancing act that it required.  He was devastated that he had to continue with the training wheels on.

Then I received a Glidebikes Mini Glider for review.  I was so excited because I knew that this might help Benji out of his slump and he could finally ride his bike training wheel free!  You see a glide bike is a form of bicycle that has only pegs, no pedals.  The rider has to balance it by stepping one at at time then pushing off with their feet, balancing their weight and therefore gliding with the momentum.  Children learn by walking and sitting on the seat. Think of the Flintstones – only with a bike not a car.  We were sent the Mini Glider for review and Benji couldn’t wait to jump on and give it a try.

Blue Mini Glider

All of the Glidebikes are designed and built to last.  They have tires that are made of EVA foam so you never have to worry about airing them up.  They definitely are not meant to be ridden for sport or on rough terrain though.  The tires are sturdy and meant just for recreational uses, like gliding up and down the block.  The seat is adjustable and the glide bike is made of high quality materials.   It even has a handle bar brake for smooth braking.  The mountain bike like design maintains a low center of gravity so it makes it easier for the rider to learn to balance and glide.

Benji rode around on the Mini Glider for three days, all the while switching back and forth between the glider and his bike.  He started using the Mini Glider on Friday afternoon and by Sunday night the training wheels were off!  I couldn’t believe it!  Check out Benji cruising around on the Mini Glider!  It was his first time so he was having a little trouble with the balance of it but by the next day he had the gliding down.

In my opinion I think that the Mini Glider was instrumental in Benji getting his training wheels removed from his bike.  He had been struggling with balancing for two weeks and in just three short days the training wheels were gone.  Three days could be a little fast for some but at the time Benji was literally switching between his bike and the glide bike for the entire weekend.  He was outside practicing all day for two and a half days straight.  The cool thing is that even once he learned to ride his bike he still likes to ride the glide bike for fun.  The neighbor kids take turns on it too.  I have been passing the Mini Glider around to my friends so their kids can learn how to ride too.  Benji keeps asking me when we are getting the Mini Glider back, he didn’t want to share it because he still wants to ride it.

Some may feel that the expense of the glide bike isn’t worth it.  After all, most of learned without a glide bike and we turned out okay.  In my opinion the glide bike is worth it because it will expedite the learning curve tenfold.  Also, if you have younger children it can easily be passed down for them to use because it is built with quality materials that were made to last.  The Mini Glider is designed for ages 2-5 and I have a two year old that would love to learn how to ride a bike too.  I personally don’t think that my two year old is ready yet to try something like the glide bike, I’m not sure if he will be able to comprehend how its supposed to work.  I think I am going to save it for him until he is about 3.  But I am confident with the help of the Mini Glider he will be ready to ride a bike well before 5, which will be really exciting for him!

Buy It!

Glide bikes range in price from $99.99 for a Mini Glider or $129.95 for a Go Glider.  The Mini Glider is recommended for ages 2-5 and the Go Glider is recommended for ages 5-10.  They are soon going to be available in larger sizes for those that are 10+.  The glide bikes are available in red, blue and pink.

Win it!

One lucky Pretty Pink Momma reader will win a Mini Glider of their choice, or a Pink Go Glider if you prefer.  They are currently sold out of the Go Gliders in Blue and Red.

Do You Have a Little One That Loves Things That Go? – They will love Shirts That Go!

Having three little boys of my own I know a bit about the fascination with things that go.  Whenever we are in the car and they see a plane, a semi, a dump truck, motorcycle, school bus – you name it – they are quick to point it out.  Its obvious that they delight in the extraordinary when it comes to vehicles of any kind.

Recently I was introduced to new clothing company called Shirts That Go.  Shirts That Go is dedicated to depicting amazing vehicles in motion with as much realism as possible on children’s tee shirts.  The images on the shirts are presented in a life like way so that the child can wear images of vehicles that represent what they see in the real world.  The line currently has fifteen designs with plans to add designs on a regular basis.

Here are a couple of my boys favorite picks from the Shirts That Go site:

Kids Garbage Truck T-Shirt

Kids Motorcycle T-Shirt

Naturally when you look at an item of clothing on a website you expect a brief description of the item.  Shirts That Go take it to the next level by allowing you to engage with your children while they are picking our their shirt.  Not only do they have a description of the shirt but they also include a very detailed description of the vehicle itself.  This unique addition to the shopping experience allows parents to educate their children about their favorite vehicle.  I love it because I wouldn’t have that knowledge otherwise so its nice that I can share in the education with my kids.

The Review

My five year old Benji is fascinated by both things that go and tee shirts.  I thought that Shirts That Go would be a perfect fit for his personality.  He is always asking me to find shirts with life like images and usually I can’t come through with his requests because they don’t exist.  Once in awhile I will find something that he is looking for and it makes his day!  I knew that he would be thrilled to pick out a shirt to review from Shirts That Go to add to his collection.

When I showed Benji the Shirts That Go site he was so excited!  We had to flip through the different shirts several times before he finally decided on the Fighter Jet T-Shirt shown above.  The day that it came Benji couldn’t wait to try it on!  Here he is sporting his new Shirts That Go shirt:

The back of the shirt has a cool Shirts That Go logo too!  Benji willingly sported that in a picture for me too!

Benji absolutely adores his shirt.  He wears it at least once a week, he would probably wear it more if I did laundry more often than that!  He is also hoping that we will get him a couple more for Christmas this year.  My oldest son that is seven also wants to get one too!  So, I think I know one thing that is definitely on the list this year for both boys.  My two year old is very into pictures of vehicles on his shirts too.  Right now  he is really into Monster Trucks so hopefully Shirts That Go will add Monster Trucks to the gallery of shirts soon.

I’m Kicking of the Gift Guide With a My Pillow Pet – Review and Giveaway!

I wanted to kick off the Holiday Gift Guide with the hottest toy out there right now.  That’s right – I’m talking about the My Pillow Pets.  If you don’t have a clue what a My Pillow Pet is, than its quite obvious that you don’t have kids.  My boys have been bugging me for a My Pillow Pet forever and I was so happy when I learned that I would be receiving one for review.  All three of my boys have been asking for one so to keep things fair I got one for the little one to review.  That way the older boys wouldn’t fight about why one of them got it when the other one didn’t.  Plus, my two year old really loves stuffed animals a lot, so I thought that he would be the most excited.

There are several different animals to choose from and it was really hard to pick out just one but my husband made the call and picked the Frog My Pillow Pet for Emilio to love on.  He was SOOO excited the day that it came.  Being that he’s two he had no idea that it was coming so it was a complete surprise.  He kept saying, “Mommy got Pillow Pet for me?  Thank you mommy!”, it was adorable!  My other boys were a bit green with envy so we had to make sure that they knew that we are planning on getting them their own for Christmas as long as they stayed on Santa’s Nice List.  Check out how happy Emilio is with his new My Pillow Pet!

Emilio still dotes on his My Pillow Pet all the time!  He adores it and I have to say, I do too!  It is sooooo soft and cudly.  I have even used it as a pillow and I found it to be amazingly comfortable.  I love that the design allows for the user to play with it as a pet or use it as a pillow.  We have tons of stuffed animals at our house and I am so happy to have one that is functional as well as fun.  I love that I can store objects in it as well when the pillow is in Pet mode.  It makes it really useful for just a quick trip to grandma’s house, I can shove an outfit in there and a couple diapers and we’re good to go!

My favorite part, next to the fact that its washable, is the velcro latch that hold the pillow in Pet mode was very cleverly made.  When the My Pillow Pet is in Pillow mode the velcro is covered by a piece of fabric from the Pet. I have had ours for about a month now and the velcro still looks brand new.  It has not gotten filled with fuzz once!  This is so important in my opinion because it speaks to the longevity of the Pet part of the toy.  If the velcro gets damaged and filled with fuzz obviously it will not be able to close and become a Pet, it will stay a Pillow. I am confident that with this design the velcro will stay intact.

Our whole family loves the Pillow Pet.  My older boys have all ready picked out the ones that they want for Christmas this year.  Benji wants a T-Rex and Oscar would like the Comfy Panda.  To be honest, I thought that because they are older – 7 and 5 – that they would see Emilio’s and the novelty would wear off.  Like I said, its been over about a month and they still both bug me all the time for their own My Pillow Pets.  To me that is the sign of great toy.  Which is why I think that this toy will be the most popular toy this holiday season.  Not only is it fun and functional but it is affordable too.  Its also a great gift for boys or girls of all ages.

My best friend’s daughter had a birthday a couple of weeks ago and she wanted a My Pillow Pet, so I bought her one because I knew how much my boys enjoyed theirs.  She wanted the purple Unicorn My Pillow Pet and I was lucky enough to get her awesome reaction to getting her My Pillow Pet on video.  She was so excited!!  I also gave her a Nano Bug which I stashed inside the fold of the My Pillow Pet but she didn’t really even seem to care, it was all about the My Pillow Pet!
