Don’t Forget to Watch #PhineasandFerb Across the 2nd Dimension Tonight on the #DisneyChannel

Last Saturday I took my two oldest boys to the Radio Disney event at the Dimension 13 theater in Portland for the special preview screening of Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension.  The new movie will air tonight at 8 pm on the Disney Channel so set your DVR cause you won’t want to miss it!

The movie was very cute and super hilarious for both parents and children alike.  We got to see Candace in a whole new light as well as a brief glimpse as to what Phineas and Ferb might be like if they weren’t allowed to say “I know what were going to do today”.  Plus we get tons of Heinz Doofenschmirtz and lots of Perry the Platypus action.  We also got to see Phineas and Ferb’s reaction to finding out that their beloved pet Perry was really a secret agent!

If your kids love Phineas and Ferb they will love this movie!  My boys were talking about it for days – in fact, they are still talking about it!  My husband didn’t get to see the movie with us and so the kids have been telling him all about their favorite parts.  They insist on watching it with him tonight so that he can see and understand for himself first hand what all the funny is about.  Luckily for them their Dad won’t mind because he is a huge Phineas and Ferb fan too – which I happen to notice that most Dads at the movie screening were super fans.

We had never been to a Radio Disney event before and it was really fun!  They had dancers, games, giveaways and tons of promotional gear.  My boys also scored a free pass to the aquarium in Newport which was a super bonus because we are planning a trip there next weekend.  When they boys got home they hung up their promotional movie posters on their bedroom walls and reveled in all the fun that they had at the premiere.

One of the funniest games that they played outside while everyone was waiting for the doors to open was Squirrels in My Pants.  Only a true Phineas and Ferb fan would appreciate the this game!  The kids were partnered up and one had to wear huge pants while the other aimed squirrels into them.  It was a lot of fun to watch and all the kids had a great time.  Lucky for you – I got it on video!

So don’t forget to tune in tonight and watch Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension.  Remember it’s at 8 on the Disney Channel – check your local listings for the exact time for your area.

Have fun!

I Can’t Believe That #BlogHer11 is FINALLY Here!

OMG!!!  It’s here, BlogHer 2011 is finally here!  AKA – my mom vacation.

It seems like I have been counting down the days to this conference forever.  There are so many events to prepare for, so many friends to see and tons of companies to connect with.  It will be one of the highlights, if not the highlight of my summer.

This trip is full of firsts for me too.  My first major conference, my first time flying BY MYSELF anywhere, my first time meeting Steph from The Blue Zoo and Blue Violet from A Nut in a Nutshell, my first mom vacation and my first time time meeting so many companies in one place!

You would think I would have been packed and ready to go ages ago.  Nope.  I am a last minute packer all the way.  Let’s just say I work best under pressure.

Just an FYI that I won’t be able to post anything from BlogHer while I am gone because I am choosing to leave my laptop at home.  I just decided that without my personal luggage carrier, otherwise known as my husband, I am trying to limit what I have to carry on my person.  I will be tweeting a ton though so if you want to know what I’m up to just send me a tweet or read my twitter stream to keep updated on all the shenanigans.

In my absence I have a few posts lined up as well as a couple of guest posts so there will be lots to read while I am gone.  So my strolling loving, breastfeeding enthusiasts and movie review loving peeps – keep an eye out!

Well – I better get packing!  I can’t wait to share all the BlogHer fun with you when I get back!

Get Your #Groupon On With the BEST Hair Stylist in #Seattle

Like most of you ladies out there I need and love to have my hair done at my favorite salon, by my favorite hair stylist, at least every 6 months if I can.  When I find the time I try to make it no more than 4 months.  My natural hair requires lots of time and attention to get it looking the way that I prefer.  I have naturally curly, frizzy, boring brown hair.  I love to treat myself to a day of beauty but my hair is more of a necessity than a “treat”.  If it goes unkempt for too long I have damaged ends and serious grow out.  I need my hair foiled and trimmed on a regular basis or I start to look like a troll.  Not such a great look.

Every woman needs a hair stylist.  One that understands exactly what you need when you need it.  Having a regular hair stylist is imperative for several reasons.  Once you have  someone that regularly handles your hair they know exactly what you want without you even having to ask.  They get a feel for your personality and what suits your lifestyle.  Plus, they know how they cut and styled it the time before, most write down the formula, that way if you love it you can achieve the same look every time you visit.   If you don’t see a regular stylist or need a new one and live in the Seattle area do I have the girl for you!

I see Devona Hutsell at Salon Divas in Seattle off of 4th and Vine whenever my hair needs a pick me up.  Devona has been styling my hair for the last  14 years.  She has also styled my mom and several of my friends over the years as well.  Needless to say that I know her very well and can personally attest to the quality of her work.  Every time Devona styles my hair she creates the exact look that I want.  Each time I leave her chair I feel like a brand new woman!  In fact, I just had her cut and foil my hair the other day.  Here are the before and after pictures so you can see the magic that Devona worked on my frizzy head.

Beautiful right? Devona is a hair artist.  It’s her calling, she was BORN to do hair.  Speaking as one of her clients, as well as someone that has known her for many years, I know that Devona has an understanding of what’s hot in the hair industry and how to make it happen for you!  She is always on trend and knows how to make any head of hair look gorgeous.

I always leave the salon with a smile on my face.  What I love about Devona is that she is not the kind of hair stylist that tries to convince you that you look amazing.  She listens to what you want, she makes every effort to create exactly what you want and if for any reason you are unhappy she doesn’t let you leave her chair until you are happy.  Which is the most important quality in a hair stylist.  I think that we have all had that experience before when a stylist is trying to sell you on your hairstyle that they created for you.  You shouldn’t have to be sold – you should look in the mirror and feel gorgeous – if you don’t than you need a new hair stylist.

If you are in search of a Seattle hair stylist I can’t urge you enough to give Devona a try.  She has experience, education and a great personality.  Once you try her I know that you will LOVE what she can do for you.  And now for the scoop!

Devona is featured on Groupon today!

Today only Devona is offering a Groupon special for a women’s hair cut featured at half price!

Call Devona and make your appointment today!  You can reach her at Salon Divas at 206-256-0155.  This Groupon is good for today only and its a fantastic opportunity to try out Devona’s services at %50 percent off!

On Vacation – Finally! Having a Blast in Seattle

This week and next I will be in Seattle enjoying my vacation.  Seattle is my hometown and I am so happy to be back home with all of my friends and family for a couple of weeks.  I sure have missed them!!

While this is a personal trip its also a business trip for my husband.  We will be enjoying all the sights and tourist attractions courtesy of his company this week.  I’m really excited because all though I grew up here I have never really done any of the tourist attractions other than the Space Needle and Pike Place Market.

This week we will be riding the Duck, a land/boat tour, and doing the Underground Tour.  I have always wanted to do both of those activities so I can’t wait!  Of course I will be sure to share some great pictures of my Seattle expeditions.

Our second week here will be spent catching up with our family and friends.  We have only been in Oregon for 6 months but I sure do miss everyone and it will be so nice to see how they are all doing.

During my vacation in the Emerald City I will be posting here and there but to keep things fresh and exciting I will be featuring some other fabulous bloggers and their favorite product finds and crafts.  So please be sure to comment on their posts and give them some love by checking our their blogs too!

Ta ta for now!

I Just Came Back from Bloggy Boot Camp Seattle 2011!

Photobucket

This weekend I attended the SITS girls Bloggy Boot Camp in Seattle.  I was really excited to go to this because it’s officially the first conference that I have been to.  I’m viewing it as my warm up to BlogHer in August.  I loved that it was in Seattle and I that I got to spend some time in my old neighborhood.  Plus you know a weekend away from the husband and kids was really refreshing.  I have missed having the me time.

I went with my good friend Tammy, from Tammy’s Two Cents.  We shared a room and it was reminiscent of those good old slumber party days.  Beyond learning ways to improve my blog I also was really looking forward to meeting lots of new bloggy friends.  I have been waiting forever to meet a group of bloggers in person.

I was in a hurry so I stole this pic from my new BFF Kristen from Our Ordinary Life, who is the lovely lady standing next to me on the left.  On my other side is Jenny, from Jenny on the Spot.  She was a speaker, frickin’ awesome one too, and I had heard a ton of great things about her from Tammy so I was excited to finally meet her.  Next in line is Tammy, my roomie.  Then Tina from Mad Hatter Mom – who I loved meeting!  I feel like such a dork but I can’t for the life of me remember the gal on the ends name! Yes, I suck. Or it could be that I have had ZERO sleep in the last couple of days. She was so nice and she hasn’t not yet started her blog yet but I know that I will definitely want to keep in contact with her when she does.

Obviously this was just a small handful but I just had to share my new favorite bloggers because I had so much fun meeting them.  I loved it hanging out with all of these wonderful ladies!!!

Later in the week I will do a post on some of the things I learned at Bloggy Boot Camp.  Like I mentioned earlier my brain is fried so I couldn’t throw together a decent post if I tried.  So for now I’m gonna get some sleep and just try to soak in all the great things I learned.

Wordless/Wordful Wednesday – The Great Toy Clean Up of 2011

This last weekend we spent our time sorting through the toy madness that is our house.  It was an event I liked to refer to as The Great Toy Clean Up of 2011.  We have a hard time getting rid of toys because having all boys when one is finished playing with a toy usually the next one down the line will find it interesting – provided it makes it them all in one piece that is!

We made it a family event and insisted that all the boys participate.  Here are the pictures from the beginning of the process:

Half way through…

DONE! Until next year that is…

In total we got rid of tons of toys and filled up two huge moving boxes that are ready to be donated.  It feels so good to have the toys all neat and organized again!

Aloha Friday – Coke or Pepsi

[alohafriday.jpg]

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani from An Island Life. Over there in Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. So, for Aloha Friday, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Answer my question and put one of your own up on your blog. Link up and check out other blogs that participate at An Island Life.

Coke or Pepsi?

Moving to a small town I would have never thought that the soft drink choices would be so limited!  Every independently owned business only offers Pepsi products.  The only place I can get a Coke is if I drive thru McDonalds or Taco Time – don’t even get me started on how vastly different Taco Time is here in Oregon as compared to Washington.  I find it really odd that every restaurant in these parts only serves Pepsi.  However, I have always been a Coke girl myself.  I have to admit that I have been drinking one Pepsi product in particular by the gallon lately and that is only in an effort to cut calories.  My new vice is Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry.  It’s the best diet, 0 calorie soft drink I can find.

So my heart is with Coke but I’m slowly succumbing to the mistress of Pepsi….

Wordless/Wordful Wednesday – My Little Potato Head!

The other night my husband and I were in the middle of a conversation when somebody tugged on my leg to get our attention. When we looked Emilio was standing there and exclaimed, “Mommy, Daddy look! I got glasses!”

That little ham was wearing Mr. Potato Head’s glasses! It was too cute and I just had to take a few pics.

At first glance though he totally reminds me of that kid from Jerry Maguire.  you know, the one that says, “The human head weighs 8 lbs!”.  Am I right?

Do You Spend Quality Time One On One With Your Children?

Being a stay at home mom I spend tons of time with my children – too much at times.  I must admit though I hardly ever get quality one on one time with my kids.  In part because I don’t want to hurt the other two’s feelings if I single one of them out.  I want them to all feel loved equally by mommy.  I know that its important to spend one on one time with them but another reason that I think it’s been tough is because they are all boys and they like the same things for the most part.  I think that its easier for parents that have a boy and girl because there are gender based activities that can help with the singular quality time and its more likely that a boy wouldn’t be jealous of girl related activities and vice versa.

Well last night I finally got my chance to spend one on one time with my middle son, Benji.  We both LOVE pizza and its something that both of us could eat every day.  I wanted to try a pizza place by our house for dinner and nobody but Benji wanted to go so I figured that this was my perfect opportunity to go on my first Mother-Son date with my six year old.  Something that we have talked about doing for awhile now.

To my surprise my oldest was happy to stay home while his brother and I went out and the little one was sleeping, so it was perfect.  Benji was really excited and so was I.  As I started getting ready to go I admit, I had a mini panic attack.  What if we didn’t have anything to talk about?  What if he was bored hanging out with his mom?  Normally there are three other people joining in on the conversation at any given moment – would I be entertaining enough on my own?  I didn’t want him to bring his DSi, our normal quieting distraction in restaurants, because I wanted this time to talk and to bond.  I decided to have him bring his new I Spy book because he loves searching for the items with me and it would be a great chance to do it without anyone chiming in.

Then we were off.  We ended up being the last customers of the night in the pizza place, in fact, we were the only customers in the entire place.  I hadn’t been there before so I didn’t know what to expect.  After we were seated we got to searching in the I Spy book, which Benji was excited about.  It was a great way to pass the time while we waited for our pizza to come to the table.  And it doubled as a great way for us to work on Benji’s reading skills.

Finally the pizza came and we put the book away.  It was time to talk.  Of all of our kids Benji has had the hardest time with our recent move so I wanted to talk to him about his feelings.  I asked him if he had been making friends at school and he told me that we wasn’t.  Which I happen to know is a bit of a fib.  I told him that I found a note from a friend of his that said Benji was his best friend.  Benji denies having any real friends.  While he was scarfing down his pizza he told me that he was afraid to make new friends because he didn’t want to forget the old ones.

My heart melted.

He is so sweet and I told him that in life you will meet many people and make many friends.  You will never forget the ones that mean the most to you, no matter how far away you are from them.  They are always in your heart.  I reassured him that its important to make new friends and he definitely wouldn’t want to miss out on new friendships and his old friends wouldn’t want him to either.

He also shared with me that he thought I spent way too much time on the computer and he hated trying to get my attention sometimes.  We had a well overdue talk about my blog and what it means to me and our family.  He seemed to be understanding – as much as a six year old can be that is.  His comments reminded me that I needed to be more aware of my computer time and how it affects my kids.  I do make the boys wait when I am on the computer and they are demanding things from me, like I’m their short order cook/maid, because I think its rude.  I guess I didn’t see that from their perspective I am being rude to them just by being on the computer in general sometimes.  I think we both learned a lot from this conversation.

After those few serious moments we got right back to the business of being silly again.  Benji loves to joke around and it was nice to see him smile.  We got our pizza boxed up and headed home but not before we stopped for some M&M’s and chocolate milk.

Overall it was a really great experience for me.  And Benji from what he told me anyways…  I can’t believe that I was nervous about not having anything to talk about with my kid.  I am glad that my fears were unfounded.

I told him that it was a lot of fun for me and that the next time I will take his older brother and then he and I can go out again.  Benji then asked, “Well what if he doesn’t want to go with you?”.  Then I asked him if he thought that his big brother would turn me down and he said “Yes!”.  So maybe I’m not such a great date after all?  Not to toot my own horn or anything but I have a sneaking suspicion that he only said it because he knows that if his brother chooses to default on his turn with me then it’s right back to him again. He’s a smart little cookie.

I think that I will be making more of an effort to take my boys out independently from now on.  I just need to get my head around that what we do doesn’t have to be spectacularly fun and that a trip to the grocery store or the library can be just as great as long as its time well spent talking.

How do you spend independent quality time with your kids?  Do you have to deal with jealousy issues?  Tell me please!

Wordless/Wordful Wednesday – Redecorating I Spy Book Style!

Emilio is going through this phase where he lines up toys in different patterns and arrangements all over the floor.  Whether its his bedroom floor, the family room floor or most recently my bedroom floor, he just can’t help himself.  It’s like a compulsion that he must fulfill.

The other night I was doing some blogging and I noticed that he was running back and forth between my room and his room.  He was being quiet so I wasn’t too concerned about what he doing seeing as I was trying to concentrate on writing a post.  When he finished his masterpiece I looked down and saw what he had accomplished.

The floor next to my bed looked like a picture out of an I Spy book

When I asked him how I was supposed to walk through he informed me by saying, “On your tip toes mommy!  Like this!”, then he demonstrated for me.

After I explained that it was a great idea but wouldn’t be so easy for mommy to navigate in the dark he agreed to take the toys back to his room.  One by one they disappeared until my floor was all clean again!
