Stanley Steemer Does The Impossible – #Review & $100 #GiftCertificate #Giveaway

A ton of dirt, some steam, cleaner, water, two great guys, and VIOLA! MAGIC happens!

After 10 years, three dogs and one child, that great light beige carpet you chose when you built the house mocks you with every new stain that appears. Or at least that’s what happens in MY house. By the time my daughter reached 2 years of age, I gave up. I decided that I would never be able to get the family room clean and instead focused on turning it into a kaleidoscope room. We play playdoh, we eat, we drink, we have even painted in that room. I know what you’re thinking.  LIGHT carpet and Painting?! By the time the two awesome guys from Stanley Steemer showed up, I was on the verge of handing over the sharpie and allowing my three year old to play connect the dots.  It was bad.

I learned that a household should ideally have the carpets cleaned professionally every 6 months. Given that I’ve been living in this house for 10 years and some change, that would mean I’m 116 months past due for my first cleaning. Wow!  In addition to drastically improving the appearance of my carpet and removing stains that I thought forever a part of our decorating style, Stanley Steemer sucked out pounds and pounds of allergens. I know carpets and rugs trap and hold onto pet dander and pollens that drift inside causing our allergies to flare. I am so impressed with the quality of work, I will be getting on the schedule to have all the bedrooms cleaned as well!

One thing that I love to promote on Pretty Pink Momma is unique gifts.  There is something so special about receiving a gift that is unique and different, it really shows that some thought was put into the gift from the giver.  And for someone like me, a gift received of that nature, means the world.  I don’t think that I’m alone here either.  Everyone likes to be made feel special, right?

When I was offered the opportunity to try out the Crayola Colored Bubbles I have to admit that I was hesitant at first. I had read the reviews from last year and I heard that they were messy and stained everything, sucking the fun right out of this clever product. When I heard that this was a review opportunity for the next generation formula I knew that I had to try it out and see if the formula had improved at all. Besides, who can resist a bubble launcher?

Get Ready for the Mess

  • Dress for Mess. Wear washable play clothes and shoes. It’s best to not wear suede, leather or any other material that can’t be washed.
  • Play Outside. An open grassy area is best away from new concrete, decks and porous surfaces like marble. Don’t use at formal events like weddings.
  • Rub skin to remove color.
  • Launder clothes promptly with water and detergent. Repeat washing may be needed.
  • Hose off outdoor surfaces like sidewalks and driveways to wash away color.

The Review

One thing that I heard about the previous formula was that it stained clothes so I before we went outside to test out the launcher and the colored bubbles I made sure that my kids were wearing their play clothes. That way if they did stain I wouldn’t be upset about it. While they were busy changing their shirts I was busy putting the bubble launcher together. Which was super easy to do. I just had to snap the hand crank on the launcher and it was good to go. I thought that it was great that Crayola had thought to make it possible to put the hand crank on the left or right side depending upon if you were a lefty or a righty. Plus they warn that once that handle is in its in and trying to remove it could damage the launcher.

Once the launcher and the kids were good to go we headed outside for the big test. I don’t know what I was expecting but the bubbles weren’t as vibrant in color as I had imagined them to be. In my head I had envisioned this Curious George type explosion of color so when I saw that they looked like regular bubbles with just a tinge of pink to them it was a little disappointing. The bubble launcher also created smaller bubbles than what I thought too. In the launcher’s defense most launchers I have come across tend to have smaller bubbles.

I really liked the launcher deployment of the bubbles because I felt that this gave the bubbles some distance from the boys hands and clothes where as a bubble wand would definitely make their hands fully of color, which in turn would make their clothes filled with color when they wiped their hands on them.

Other than a few fights over who got the launcher the boys had a good time chasing and popping the bubbles in the grass. They were worried about the color staining their hands and their plastic bat that they were popping the bubbles with but I assured them that it was okay. And it really was. Where the colored bubbles dripped the most was on their shoes because of how the held the launcher when cranking it. I didn’t even think about the shoes so I was happy when I found out that the color was easily wiped off with a baby wipe and they were good to go. My little one had a lot drip on his pants and the white stripes on the sides were pink from the bubbles but that too came clean with a baby wipe! Each of the boys got the color on their hands when they used the wands and it wiped off without any problems.

I think that the colored bubbles would be super fun in the summer time when the sprinklers are running. The kids really could let go and feel free to get it all over themselves then take a quick run through the sprinklers to wash it off.

One of our favorite things to do as a family is watch movies.  Over the last year we have all really enjoyed having a family movie day on Sundays.  Its our day to veg out and just eat and hang out together.  Prior to Sunday my husband and I check out all the great movies that are on demand via our cable provider to plot out what we are going to watch that weekend.  Actually we really like to pick out two movies, one for the whole family on Sunday and one just for us that we can watch in our bedroom on Friday or Saturday night sans children.  There are so many new releases each week and because we don’t often get out to the theater there is usually something that one or both of us really want to see.

Movies On Demand are so convenient and easy – I just love it!  I really like that there isn’t a need for a debit card or anything like that, it just simply gets added to my monthly cable bill.  It’s fun and affordable family entertainment and something that we do much more of during the holiday season while the kids are on winter break.

One of my guiltiest pleasures is watching movies from the comfort of my bed.  I love watching movies with my husband too but I confess that if there are chick flicks that I know for certain that he will not want to see I watch them by myself when he is gone at work. I may have to pause it a million times from the boys interrupting me but its still one of my favorite ways to relax after a rough morning.

If you are still not convinced that Movies On Demand are as awesome as I think it is check out this video that points out some great reasons why you should take advantage of it.

I am always watching shows and movies on demand and every day I see movie critic Leonard Maltin sharing his top picks that week for Movies On Demand.  He always has interesting picks and shares some great insight about each movie that he recommends.

 

As I mentioned earlier, Movies On Demand has great new releases each week.  Today, 12/6, Movies On Demand released Cowboys & Aliens, The Hangover 2 and The Help.  I haven’t seen Cowboys & Aliens but the trailer looks good.  I have seen the the other two but my husband hasn’t seen The Help and even though it seems like a chick flick its really a movie for everyone to see.  I would definitely order that on Demand just so he could watch it and I would love to see it again.

On Friday, 12/9, Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom is set to release.  This was a such a fun family movie to see and if you haven’t seen it yet getting it On Demand this weekend would be a great way to share some family fun in between all the frantic holiday shopping and planning.

Also, if you want to see new trailers, interviews and more you can visit the Movies On Demand YouTube Channel.  I just say a trailer for Sarah’s Key and it looks so good that I think I will recommend it to my husband for this weekend.

Click Your Flick is a great way to help you decide which movie you most want to see – and if you still can’t decide you can ask your friends to weigh in!  How cool is that?  The app asks you to choose from two movies and with each selection it narrows down what you would rather see based on the answers you give.  Then it ultimately gives you the two options to choose from.  If you still can’t decide post it on your wall and leave it up to your friends to help.  It was really cool to play with and there were descriptions of lots of movies that I know I would have skimmed over based on their title but reading the description and seeing a picture helped to get me interested in some new movies.

The Review

My husband browsed Ornaments With Love forever with me and finally it was a unanimous decision that this family ornament was our favorite.  My husband is SO Christmas crazy that he insisted on being a part of the selection process.  Which is funny because in the end he chose what I had picked out anyways – go figure!

I love it and I think that it came out extremely well.  Its made of resin and the colors are bright and cheery.  We finally have an ornament with all five of our names on it!  Please excuse the fact that the picture is not as great as last years, our tree isn’t up quite yet.

The ornament comes very neatly packaged and padded with care so you don’t have to worry about any breakage issues.  It also comes with a cute little cellophane bag perfect for holiday gift giving.

I only have one complaint about the ornament selection. I wish that they had skin tone options available for the ornaments that feature people. Don’t get me wrong, I love our ornament, but it would make it that much more personalized if the Dad wasn’t a white guy because my husband isn’t white. And our kids aren’t completely white either… their mixed. Hopefully this is something that they can work on for 2013.

I love shopping at Kroger for their awesome deals and coupons when I can.  My nearest Kroger store is a Fred Meyer that is about 40 minutes away.  It happens to be near the Costco so when I plan my Costco shopping trips I also plan to go to Fred Meyer and get my favorites because they have everything you could possibly want or need.
